This research entitled (The theoretical bases and foundations for setting up language policy) is drawn from a doctoral thesis under the title (Policy and Linguistic Planning in the Media - Satellite Channels in the Kurdistan Region as a Model).
The research deals with the concept, objectives, and stages of setting up language policy. It also analyzes the theory of language policy and the strategies of its various ideologies according to political systems, especially in terms of following those systems and determining the relationship between languages and society.
There is no doubt that human intervention in the language or its conditions is not new, because people have always tried to lay down rules for using the language in a better and more extensive way, or interfere with the form of their language that they speak.
And we, in turn, tried in this research to present the main foundations that play a pivotal role in formulating a successful language policy. There are important main foundations that deserve to be discussed by researchers and language policy specialists in order to understand them deeply, whether for the purpose of setting and building a new language policy or discussing and analyzing this current policy.
In conclusion, the researcher summarized the foundations mentioned in several points. Then, the sources and references are documented, and presented a summary of this research in both Arabic and Kurdish.
